NCL COMPLETES FLEET WIDE MOBILE PHONE INSTALLATION
-Talk at sea with NCL and Orient Lines-
London, 21 August 2006: NCL has today announced that it is the first cruise line to offer mobile phone service across all 15 ships in its fleet (including Orient Lines). The service is available for all guests on all of its ships worldwide even when communications towers are oceans away.
Leading the way in shipboard technology, NCL was the first cruise line to offer mobile phone services at sea when it introduced the new technology on Norwegian Sun more than two years ago. NCL also pioneered the industry’s first Internet access on the high seas with its Internet café in 1999, whilst in 2002 it became the first cruise line to provide remote wireless Internet access for its guests. All these services are now standard throughout NCL’s entire fleet.
Francis Riley, General Manager NCL UK, comments, “It is widely known that NCL has a history of innovation in the cruise industry. In our ongoing quest to offer our guests the very best service onboard our ships, we are pleased to introduce our latest ‘first’.
“While we recognise that some guests traveling with us want to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, others need to stay in touch with loved ones or business associates, and following in the NCL tradition we offer them the choice. Mobile phone, Internet capabilities and WiFi services ensure that our guests can stay connected if they want.”
The new mobile phone service combines satellite and wireless technology, enabling guests to make and receive calls on their own mobile phones with their own phone numbers while in international waters. Guests using this service will be billed by the mobile service operator to whom they subscribe at roaming rates, just as if they were roaming on land instead of at sea.
