Forget the carriage; Gillian’s taking a cruise home from the ball! |
London, 25 March 2008… Gillian Glover of Eythorne near Dover was floating on air following her win of a dream holiday on board NCL Freestyle Cruising’s Norwegian Jewel from Dover later this year.
The holiday was a major prize in a raffle to raise money for the Mayor’s Goodwill charity at the Mayor’s Spring Ball, held on March 7 and attended by 150 guests who enjoyed a four-course meal and dancing in the splendid surroundings of Dover’s 11th century Town Hall.
The Right Worshipful the Town Mayor of Dover, Councillor Bob Markham said: “We are extremely grateful to NCL, for this magnificent prize, which will enable us to help worthy local causes. NCL’s generosity is symptomatic of the relationship between the town and our seafaring tradition, with NCL being such very welcome visitor to our excellent cruise facilities”.
Raffle tickets have been on sale since the beginning of the year and further tickets were sold on the night, with Miss Dover and her princesses undertaking the sales to the guests.
Stephen Park, general manager NCL UK, said the company is delighted to return the support the local Dover community again in 2008. This year brings one of NCL’s newest ships, Norwegian Jewel, to run an extended programme of 11 sailings to the Baltics from Dover throughout the summer.
“We’re delighted to give something back to the people of Dover and to support such a worthy charity. They have been a great support to us and we look forward to continuing a strong relationship with the city this season.”
The Mayor’s Goodwill fund is a charity which raises funds to give away to local good causes. All money raised is distributed and within the remit of the Goodwill Fund and the Mayor hosts events for the local community to be involved in, such as the Mayor’s Spring Ball.
